Title:Partnerships between community colleges and prisons: Providing workforce education and training to reduce recidivism
Source:http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ovae/pi/A...
Date:2009
Organization:US Department of Education
Short Description:This report describes partnerships between community colleges and prisons in 11 states that have expanded educational services to help prisoners prepare for their release.
Annotation:More than two-thirds of inmates released from prisons are reincarcerated, in part because they lack marketable skills and support for their re-entry into the community. Education and workforce training can help disrupt this cycle and, by doing so, improve public safety and save tax dollars. This report describes partnerships between community colleges and prisons in 11 states that have expanded educational services to help prisoners prepare for their release. Examining how partnerships are formed, coordinated, and funded, the report also addresses the challenges they face and how those are addressed, as well as how the partnerships benefit inmates, community colleges, prisons, and the public.
