Annotation:The relative absence of African Americans, American Indians, and Latinos in STEM study and careers, and the requirement to reverse this situation to better compete globally, is referred to in this publcation as “the ‘New’ American Dilemma. This report examines the importance of increasing minority participation in STEM careers, describes trends in enrollment and educational attainment among this population, and identifies barriers to educational success for this population.
