Title:“Why access matters” revisited: A review of the latest research
Organization:Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation
Short Description:In February 2007 the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation issued a report entitled The Price of Knowledge 2006–07: Why Access Matters. This research note seeks to clarify the discussion by examining the latest data on the interactions between higher education and the labor market and providing an analysis of recent reports discussing the post-secondary enrollment outlook.
Annotation:In February 2007 the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation issued a report entitled The Price of Knowledge 2006–07: Why Access Matters. The report’s central argument, that post-secondary enrollment in Canada will soon decline unless steps are taken to improve the participation rate of youth currently under-represented at colleges and universities, sparked some controversy. This research note seeks to clarify the discussion by examining the latest data on the interactions between higher education and the labor market and providing an analysis of recent reports discussing the post-secondary enrollment outlook. It also highlights new information on the benefits of post-secondary studies and provides an update on the socio-economic background of the current Canadian student body.
